San Diego Coronado-Bay Bridge Lighting
美国圣迭戈Coronado Bay大桥艺术家合作项目

竞赛的挑战来自于以功能为主、造型单一的大桥，未能提供足够的旅游观景的价值。本设计的目标为创造城市新地标，从城市空间和景观各方面得到当地居民的心理认可,并使大桥具有独特的吸引力，并唤起游客对旅游地圣迭戈的兴趣。大桥改造预算的限制促使我们寻找更具创造性、有效和节省的方式去制定方案，使用灯光这一非物质造景元素更有效、经济地达到设计目标。

“露天剧场”方案：借用东方“借景”的造景概念，利用大桥本身的1/4圆曲线和水面上竖立起的16个光塔，共同构成一个完整的圆形图案。光塔采用LED光源发光，并设置激光发射器。平时16个点在开阔海面组成的完满的圆形，成为一幅静止诗意的地景；而在周末或节庆的夜晚，激光束在三维空间交织，根据需要构成各种图形或动态效果。

大桥的单一功能性被巧妙地加以改善，水上和两岸的区域形成一个让人参予和体验的互动式公共空间，成为日常观景与节日庆典的巨型露天剧场。

The design challenge caused by the bridge's simple, functional character that cannot satisfied the need of a tourist attraction. Our aim is to create a new landmark of the city that accepted by the local residents on psychology, landscape, city public space harmony and so on. At the same time, it's so attractive that it will arouse the tourists' strong interests in the region.

The limited budget of the project forced us to provide a more creative, efficient and economical solution. For example, to use the intangible matter such as light to achieve the effect. And we promise the saving and using the recycling of the energy.

Following the oriental garden-plannning's concept "to borrow a scenery", we used the exsiting 90 degree curve of the bridge (almost a quarter of a circle) as the base, then add 16 lighting towers on the water to complete the whole circle as the extension.

The lighting towers uses LED lighting system, and the laser transmitter will be installed on the top of each tower. Normally, 16 lighting towers form a perfectly circle above the water level as a peaceful poetic image. At the night on holidays and festivals the laser beams from the transmitters interlace in 3d space beyond the sea, form all kinds of pattern with dynamical visuall effect.

This proposal enriches the single function of the bridge, transfers the bay an interactive public space where people can participate in and experience. The bay-bridge zone becomes a great amphitheatre that contains the daily tourisam's scenery and the festival celebration!
